Liverpool and Bayern Munich have threatened Barcelona’s hopes of signing defensive pair Clement Lenglet and Matthijs De Ligt.
The Catalan club are keen on improving their defensive options upon making a decision to move both Thomas Vermaelen and Yerry Mina on this coming summer.
Vermaelen has played more frequently than ever for Barca this season, but he is expected to leave come June, whilst Mina, who was signed in January – is expected to leave the club on loan.
Having scoured Europe for potential replacements, it has been reported that officials had indicated Lenglet from Sevilla and De Ligt from Ajax as potential arrivals.
But, their expected moves for the defensive duo are now under threat after Liverpool made a move for the former and Bayern made moves to sign the latter.
Lenglet has played a key part in Sevilla’s season, helping them to a Champions League quarter-final where they narrowly lost to Bayern last week, whilst De Ligt has been impressing on all fronts for the Dutch side, despite being only 18.
Diario AS report that Jurgen Klopp has been paying attention to Lenglet, with Mundo Deportivo claiming Bayern have submitted an opening bid for De Ligt in the last 24 hours.
