Alaves have all-but ensured their La Liga safety with some decent results of late, but times this season have seen the Basque side struggle.
Former Barcelona defender Abelardo has been patient with his side and turned around their fortunes of late, ensuring victories over Getafe and Eibar, whilst the club have not conceded a goal in their last three league games.
Sitting 15th in the league standings, Alaves will be looking to further improve as the season comes to an end, but who has been their best player this season.
The 21-year-old defender has been arguably Alaves most consistent performer, having kept to an average rating of 7.08 per game this season. His performances at right back for the Basque club have played an important part in their revival, and he has been a consistent figure in the starting eleven since the turn of 2018. His most impressive moment of the season came when he gained three assists in three games against Real Sociedad, Real Betis and Valencia in March.
On the left hand side of defence, Ruben Duarte has been also impressive – gaining an average rating of 6.95 per game and gaining three Man of the Match awards in the process. Like Aguirregabiria on the opposite flank – the 22-year-old has been an ever present in the last few months, providing Abelardo with a solid left side.
The 31-year-old club captain has been influential this season, despite his ageing years. His important in the middle of the park has seen him win 2.8 aerial duels per game, and gain an average rating of 6.94 per game. In total, the Spanish midfielder has played in over 2000 minutes this season.
Munir El Haddadi
Seven goals, six assists for the on-loan Barcelona forward has seen Munir become a big part of Abelardo’s plans, helping the side to some important victories with his goals. Whilst many would of expected him to score more, he has contributed to 13 goals this season combined. His goal-scoring accolades continued in the Copa del Rey too, where he netted four times, meaning he has hit double figures in all competitions for the season.
Just as important as Munir has been former Athletic Club forward Ibai Gomez, who has contributed to 10 league goals this season, with five coming from himself and five more assists. His performance levels have been fairly consistent, keeping to an average rating of 6.69 in his 1942 minutes played this season.
