Atletico Madrid are looking to swoop midfielder Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon according the Portuguese sports press.
They join the likes of Tottenham, Liverpool and Juventus who are all looking to activate the player’s 100 million euros release clause.
In what has been his debut season at Sporting Lisbon, he has become a key player for coach Jorge Jesus and his good performances have not gone unnoticed.
The 23-year-old has made 41 first team appearances so far and featured in both Europa League quarter-final legs against Los Colchoneros.
Atleti head coach Diego Simeone even said in the press conference prior to the second leg encounter last week, that if he could take one player out from Sporting’s lineup it would be the Portugal international.
It was quite possibly Fernandes’ second leg showing which lured the Argentine coach in. Despite the Rojiblancos progressing through to the semi-finals, the play-maker looked assured on the ball.
Juventus are another club known to have the player on their radar and he could well be swayed by the Serie A giants having already tasted Italy.
Should Sporting be willing to negotiate, the transfer could become the biggest in all of its history and with the Portuguese setting sights on the World Cup in Russia, they could well have time to ask for the 100 million euros release clause to be activated.
At Sporting he has already help lead them to the League Cup title and shares the club’s aspiration in winning the league.
