Celta Vigo 2-2 Barcelona: Sergi Roberto receives red as visitors hold to unbeaten recordApril 18, 2018
A much-changed Barcelona held on to a 2-2 draw at Celta Vigo as the likes of Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets were rested.
Along with Pique and Busquets, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez were left out of the starting eleven by Ernesto Valverde as the Barca coach kept one eye on the Copa del Rey final this Saturday evening.
Chances were then handed to the likes of Denis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele, and it was the latter who gave the Catalan side the lead at the Balaidos.
The Frenchman capitalised on a lapse in concentration in the Celta back-line and unleashed a superb volley into the bottom corner.
Celta, in truth, had the better chances than Barca and Jonny Otto would soon have the home side on level terms, tapping home from a Maxi Gomez cross.
Paco Alcacer regained the advantage for the away side after the break following good work from Paulinho, but Sergi Roberto was then dismissed for hauling back Iago Aspas, who was through on goal.
Marc Andre ter Stegen saw the resulting free-kick go over the crossbar, but the German keeper could do little about the leveller.
Aspas it was, who tapped home to share the spoils and gain a good point for the home side, who have not lost to Barca in the league this season.
Barca extended their unbeaten run to 40 matches in La Liga and moved 12 points clear of Atletico Madrid, who have one game in hand.
