Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane could field a second string side against Athletic Club on Wednesday evening as the Champions League semi-finals take priority.
Wednesday 18th April / Kick-off at 20:30 UK / Santiago Bernabeu
The visitors have an awful record at the Bernabeu and will come up against the potential of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, who were both rested for the game against Malaga at the weekend.
Jose Angel Ziganda is under increasing pressure with Athletic and is expected to be replaced by Eduardo Berizzo this summer, making his side’s run in a largely irrelevant feature of the season.
For Madrid, Zidane may chose to rest Ronaldo even further, but the Portuguese international is expected to start – having scored 25 goals in his last 14 games in all competitions.
Nacho is Real Madrid’s only definite absentee here. Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale should rotate back in up top having been rested last time out.
Ander Iturraspe and Unai Nunez are back from bans and should start. Markel Susaeta should be preferred to Inigo Cordoba on the wing.
Real Madrid: Navas, Marcelo, Ramos, Vallejo, Hernandez, Casemiro, Kovacic, Asensio, Isco, Vasquez, Benzema.
Athletic Club: Arrizabalaga, Balenziaga, Martinez, Etxeita, Oscar de Marcos, Benat, Mikel San Jose, Cordoba, Garcia, Susaeta, Williams.
Whilst Zidane may opt for a reserve side, we still expect Madrid to come out of the game as winners. 2-1
