Real Sociedad v Atletico Madrid: Tough test for Euro chasing La Real

Real Sociedad welcome second placed Atletico Madrid to the Anoeta Stadium this evening with a win keeping them in the race for a Europa League spot.

Imanol Alguacil’s men have picked up 7 points from the last 15 available, and a shock win against a strong Atleti side will keep La Real in amongst a cluster of teams with a European place still in contention.

Tonight’s visitors had a tough March, losing to Barcelona and Villarreal in the league as well as scraping through to the Europa League semi-finals following a 2-1 aggregate win against Portuguese side Sporting Club. A comfortable 3-0 win at home to Levante on Sunday seems to have stopped their bad run of form and a win tonight could all but cement a confirmed second place for Los Colchoneros.

Sociedad go into the match with an extensive injury list. Carlos Martinez (groin), Imanol Agirretxe (Achilles tendon), Xabi Prieto (groin), Jon Guridi (quadriceps), David Concha (hip), Miguel Angel Moya (adductor) and Martin Merquelanz (ruptured ligament) are all unavailable for the clash.

Felipe Luis and Diego Costa remain injured for Atletico with a fractured fibula and hamstring injury respectively. Potentially joining the pair on the team’s injury list is centre half, Stefan Savic, who is included in the squad list but trained in discomfort before the trip to San Sebastian. Lucas Hernandez will also miss the game due to suspension.
