According to reports in England today, Manchester United are preparing a bid for Sevilla centre half Clement Lenglet.

The Sun state that Jose Mourinho was impressed with the 22 year old’s performances against the Red Devils in the Champions League and feels that Lenglet would fit into the English game.

The former Real Madrid manager is known to have become restless with his current set of defenders and is planning a summer clearout, with Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Victor Lindelof all rumoured to be heading towards the exit door.

Lenglet signed for Sevilla in January 2017 from AS Nancy in a €5 million deal, where he was seen as a replacement for Timothée Kolodziejczak. He featured in 17 of the side’s league matches in the second half of the 16/17 season and this season has been ever present in the Sevillistas defence, featuring in 30 league games and scoring three goals.

It is also believed that Barcelona are interested in the Frenchman and have already enquired about his availability. Although the Catalan side have added a new defender in Yerry Mina to the squad, his performances have been shaky of late, and with persistent talk of Samuel Umtiti’s departure from the club, it is thought that Barca would be targeting the consistent Lenglet for a summer transfer.

Website Goal believe that Lenglet has a release clause of €30 million in his contract, however Sevilla aim to make him one of the highest-paid players in the squad next season, plans that have been confirmed by club president Jose Castro.
