Ernesto Valverde has told Andre Gomes that he will leave Barcelona this summer after a number of Premier League sides showed interest.
The Portuguese’s arrival at the Camp Nou from Valencia two seasons back came under heavy scrutiny, mainly because of the hefty price tag of £50m and other options in the Barca squad at the time.
The 24-year-old’s transfer fee, matched with some indifferent form and constant links to an exit, have seen him become dismayed at life in the Catalan capital, whilst the club’s fans have been heard to throw criticism towards the midfielder during games.
Barca boss Valverde attempted to silence the Camp Nou in last month’s game with Atletico Madrid after Gomes replaced Andres Iniesta, and the fans’ reaction the Portuguese international has changed in recent appearances.
Interest from the likes of Manchester United and former club Valencia are present in Spanish media, and it is also thought that Arthur’s pending move to the Camp Nou from Brazilian side Gremio will dampen any chance of him playing next season.
Gomes, who was represented by Jorge Mendes, has now changed his agent to his brother and Paul Martin, an English agent, who has good contacts in England.
Other potential exits this coming summer are Denis Suarez, Paco Alcacer and Aleix Vidal – who are struggling for regular game time – whilst Thomas Vermaelen and Yerry Mina are also looking at their futures.
