The future of Jan Oblak at Atletico Madrid remains uncertainApril 24, 2018
Jan Oblak’s future at Atletico Madrid continues to remain uncertain with a number of clubs looking into his current deal at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Oblak has been in terrific form for Atleti this season. In his first 100 games for the club, he kept 59 clean sheets and only conceded 54 goals, holding a better record than Iker Casillas and Victor Valdes.
The 25 year old’s performances have not gone unnoticed, and like team mate Antoine Griezmann, rumours of Oblak leaving the Wanda Metropolitano have shown no signs of going away.
Reports in England over the past couple of months had linked the Slovenian with moves to Arsenal and Liverpool, and there has been persistent rumours of Paris Saint Germain holding discussions with Oblak’s agent, Miha Mlakar over a summer move.
It was known that his current contract included a £90 million release clause, a drop in the ocean in comparison to the money spent on Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
Oblak signed for Atleti from Portuguese side Benfica in 2014 for €16 million, making him the most expensive goalkeeper in La Liga history.
His current deal was due to run out in 2021, and it would be something of a coup if the club manage to keep hold of the player beyond then, and the removal of a release clause will definitely calm the nerves of Atleti supporters.
