Spain’s World Cup squad will be announced by coach Julen Lopetegui on Friday 18 May, it has been confirmed.
The squad unveiling will be made in the Distrito Telefonica building in the Las Tablas area of Madrid, leaving fans of the national side to question who will be included.
Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, Valencia’s Rodrigo, Celta Vigo’s Iago Aspas and Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata will all be crossing their fingers for a place in the squad.
Morata, who was widely tipped to gain a spot in Russia has failed to find his form of late in the Premier League, settling for a place on the bench at Stamford Bridge.
Costa, who left Chelsea last summer and was forced to wait until January to make his Atleti debut – has formed a good partnership with Antoine Griezmann, whilst Aspas and Rodrigo have been impressive throughout the season for their respective clubs in La Liga.
Across the rest of the squad – Lopetegui should be largely committed on his selection as he has been throughout the qualifiers and March’s friendly games.
Spain’s first game of the competition will be against Portugal in Sochi on June 15, before facing Iran and Morocco in the other group games.
