Reus coach Artiz López Garai is preparing to undergo surgery to repair a valve in his heart, the club have confirmed via their website.

The 37-year-old will undergo the procedure in Barcelona on May 4th.

Garai, who had spells at Celta, Córdoba and Sporting Gijón among others during an 18-year career on the field, played in 56 matches for Reus prior to taking the helm as manager in June last year.

Xavi Bartolo, Reus athletics coach, will take charge for at least the next two matches.  These will be against Barcelona B, away on May 5th, and the visit of Tenerife a week later. Garai is expected to be back in time for the Week 40 trip to Granada.

Currently, Reus sit in 13th place in Spain’s Liga 123, nine points from the relegation zone with their survival in the division not quite assured at this stage.
