Deportivo La Coruña’s relegation is already beginning to cost the club dearly with one player already set to flee the sinking ship with defender Sidnei reportedly close to joining Villarreal.
El Transistor radio show on Spanish station Onda Cero say that a deal is close to completion for the central defender, who will end his three year spell in Galicia after 119 appearances to date for the club.
According to MARCA, both Spanish and English clubs were interested in the 28-year-old, but it now appears that he is opting for a move to Spain’s east coast to the Estadio de la Ceramica.
His departure is the first of a major restructuring in A Coruña as doubts surround the likelihood of coach Clarence Seedorf continuing in the dugout at Riazor.
On top of that, four other men, Lucas Perez, Fede Valverde, Adrian Lopez and Zakaria Bakkali will return to their clubs after loan spells, whilst Carles Gil, Eneko Boveda, Makysm Koval and Michael Krohn-Dehli all have various release clauses activated by relegation to the second tier.
Sidnei’s departure will bring in a transfer fee for the club given that he is under contract until 2020, with Florin Andone, Celso Borges and Juanfran other men who could be sold to try to fund a summer rebuild under Seedorf or another coach as the club prepares to bounce back with promotion at the first time of asking.
