Pablo Maffeo has ended his loan spell with Girona and sealed a permanent move to Bundesliga side VFB Stuttgart, Man City have confirmed via their official website.
The deal is said to be in the region of £8.5m and will see Maffeo sign a five year deal, leaving City the option to buy him back should they be happy with his performances.
Having arrived on a season long loan deal at the Catalan club last summer as part of Manchester City’s partnership; Maffeo has been a real success, helping Pablo Machin’s side produce a Europa League challenge and survive in La Liga at the first time of asking.
Seen as a utility man for the La Liga club this season, Maffeo has produced some eye catching performances, including one excellent performance against Barcelona, where he was forced to mark Lionel Messi.
Machin and Girona had been hopeful of keeping the youngster at the club for next season, but negotiations between parent club Man City and Stuttgart have seen a deal now come to completion.
New chapter in Germany
The 20-year-old who arrived at City in 2015 after spells with Levante Las Planas and Espanyol – made just three appearances for City during his time with the English club.
The Catalan born full-back now calls time on his spell in his homeland for a stint with Tayfun Korkut’s Stuttgart, who finished seventh this season in the German league.
City wished the youngster good luck on his new move, writing: “Once the LaLiga season is completed, he will head to Germany for the next phase of his career and everyone at City wishes Pablo all the best as he begins his new chapter with Stuttgart.”
Girona will now be looking to replace Maffeo, who played 31 games for the club this season in La Liga.
