Nelson Vivas has joined Atletico Madrid’s coaching staff after being named Argentine Manager of the Year this season.
The former Arsenal defender won the coveted award after being in charge of Estudiantes, whilst he has enjoyed spells with Quilmes and Defensa y Jusitica also in his homeland.
The 48-year-old tactician will replace Tiago as part of Diego Simeone’s coaching staff, with the Portuguese coach moving on elsewhere.
Vivas may not be the only new face at Atletico next season as Rodrigo of Valencia has been linked with a move.
The 27-year-old netted 16 goals in 31 league games at the Mestalla this season and has earned a call up to Julen Lopetegui’s side after consistently good performances.
The report follows up previous claims from Cadena Ser that outlined Atleti’s plans to bring in a number of new faces as they look to build on their impressive Europa League success and second place finish in the La Liga standings.
Diego Simeone has been delighted with his side this season, but an early group exit in the Champions League and that disappointment is said to be top on his list of objectives next season.
Rodrigo is seen as the perfect third man in a front trio which includes Diego Costa and Antoine Griezmann, who is 50/50 on his future at present, having been linked with a move to Barcelona.
