La Liga End of Season Awards: Young Player of the Year – RodriMay 24, 2018
The La Liga season has come to a close once again, and it’s time to reflect on a season of near invincibility for Barcelona, the resurgence of Valencia and a surprising Girona.
It’s now time to see which young stars have got to grips with the Spanish top flight this season and is one to watch for the future.
3) Fabian Ruiz
At number three it is the young Real Betis midfielder, Fabian Ruiz, who has shone in a good season for Betis which has seen them clinch a spot in next season’s Europa League.
The 22-year old has contributed in all departments this season, with three goals and six assists from midfield helping the Béticos jump from flirting with relegation last year to the glories of Europe.
An impressive campaign for the youngster dubbed the next ‘Kaka’ has led to a battle between Barcelona and Manchester United for his signature, with both seriously considering his €30 million buy-out clause.
2) Marco Asensio
In the silver medal position is Marco Asensio of Real Madrid who has continued his rise to stardom with a stellar season in a Galactico shirt registering six goals and six assists in the league alongside his sensational strikes against rivals, Barcelona, in the Super Cup matches.
The young winger has a place in Spain’s 23-man squad this summer for the World Cup in Russia and all eyes will be upon him to see if he can replicate his club form. It could lead to further fuelling the rumours of Gareth Bale’s departure from the Bernabeu.
The gold medallist and winner of best young player of the season goes to Rodri. The Villarreal star has caught the eye of many this season creating more passes than Sergio Busquets (2,252).
Touted to be the successor of the Barcelona midfielder, the 21-year old has had some key performances including the final game of the season where he was instrumental in his side’s comeback to draw with Real Madrid, registering both assists.
An impressive season has caught the eye of Atletico Madrid who have acquired the sensation activating his buy-out clause of €25 million and will see him head back to his boyhood club in the summer.
