Lucas Silva is close to sealing a season long loan deal with Celta Vigo, becoming Antonio Mohamed’s first signing of the summer.
Brazilian media outlet UOL Esporte claim that the 25-year-old is close to moving to the Galician based side, having seen the midfielder state a desire to move back to European football.
Having arrived in Madrid in January 2015, Silva was sent back to Cruzeiro in his homeland and has enjoyed varied success, whilst he has also had a spell in France with Marseille.
Silva will become Mohamed’s first signing since being appointed at the Balaidos earlier this week.
The 48-year-old coach has been very much a journeyman in recent seasons, having spent 15 years coaching in Mexico.
His spell in Spanish football will be his first, seeing the Galician side hand him a two-year contract to replace former Barcelona assistant Unzue, who failed to push the club to a Europa League place and top half finish.
Whilst Unzue was expected to remain in charge, the club deemed his efforts not good enough, despite only being in charge for one season.
Argentine media TyC sports stated on Tuesday afternoon that an agreement had been struck between Celta and Mohamed’s officials and that has now been confirmed.
