Atletico Madrid have completed the signing of Rodri from Villarreal, confirming the news via their official website.
In a deal which was agreed back in December, the young midfielder has now signed on the dotted line at the Wanda Metropolitano.
The 21-year-old began his career with Atleti, playing for their academy before making a move to the Yellow Submarine, where he made his debut in the 2015/16 season.
A following campaign which saw him make 31 appearances, scoring once – caught the eye of his former club and after another solid season at the Estadio de Ceramica – a move was forced.
Negotiations are now complete, seeing Atleti pay 20m euros for their former youngster.
Rodri has featured for the Spanish national side at U19 and U21 level, becoming a regular and he made his senior debut against Germany in a friendly back in March.
The youngster’s form this season also saw him hold of the likes of Marco Asensio in the La Liga News UK Awards, scooping the Best Young Player of the Season.
Touted to be the successor of Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets for the national side, the 21-year old has had some key performances including the final game of the season where he was instrumental in his side’s comeback to draw with Real Madrid, registering both assists.
