Ruben Castro is set to end his stint with Real Betis and join Segunda side Cordoba.
The 36-year-old enjoyed a four month spell with Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng after leaving Betis last summer, but later returned to Spain in the January transfer window, making his return to the Betis first team.
Castro, who is a fan favourite at the Benito Villamarin, started just one game since returning to the club though, making a handful of appearances from the bench, scoring once from the penalty spot.
Any potential guaranteed starting place was rather overshadowed by the emergence of youngster Loren Moron, who turned into a revelation having been promoted from the B team.
Whilst Betis are keen for Castro to see out his current contract until June 2019, it is understood that interest from Cordoba has now seen the striker agree terms to leave.
The La Liga 123 side struggled this season and finished 16th in the standings, but they are hoping to make a number of signings this summer which could elevate them into a promotion push next term.
“Ruben would offer us a lot but we have to combine love and money to convince him,” Cordoba sporting director Luis Oliver is cited as saying by Marca.
During his career with Betis, Castro has scored an impressive 148 goals in 281 games, whilst he won the Pichichi on two occasions, becoming Betis’ all-time leading scorer in the mean-time.
