Valencia reject Vietto deal and move in on GameiroJune 7, 2018
Valencia have turned down the chance to sign Luciano Vietto from Atletico Madrid on a permanent deal, however, they are reportedly closing in on Kevin Gameiro.
Whilst La Liga News UK reported on Wednesday that Gameiro could be returning to his homeland with Saint Ettiene, it has emerged that matched with that interest from the Ligue 1 side – are Los Che.
A report in Marca claims that Gameiro’s representatives are actively looking for a new club for the striker and that meetings with Valencia have gone well, suiting both the club and the player.
Whilst the 31-year-old is keen to move to the Mestalla, the only stumbling block left is his current salary, which would need to see a reduction – given Valencia’s lack of funds.
Valencia’s interest comes after they turned down the offer to sign Vietto on a permanent deal, following his loan spell from Atleti – where despite scoring a hat-trick on his debut, saw him fail to find consistent form.
Gameiro has struggled to hold down a starting place under Diego Simeone at the Wanda Metropolitano, having seen Diego Costa arrive from Chelsea last summer.
The former Paris Saint Germain and Sevilla man netted 27 goals in two seasons with Atleti, helping them win the Europa League last month.
