Celta Vigo are close to an agreement with Corinthians for Paraguayan central defender Fabian Balbuena, according to reports in Brazil.
Brazilian journalist of Goal, Bruno Andrade claims that the negotiations are at an advanced stage and before long, the defender will be a Celta player.
He said; “The negotiation is progressing little by little, but it will be not be long in closing.”
Celta are willing to pay his four million pound release clause and it is believed that he will soon be joining new manager Antonio Mohamed’s team at Balaidos.
Balbuena has spent his whole career in South America, with four clubs in Paraguay’s Primera Division before joining Brazil’s Corinthians where has been since 2016 making over 60 appearances in that time. He also has five caps for the Paraguayan national team.
Standing at six foot two inches tall, Balbuena is known for his strength in the air with Celta hoping he can be the answer to their centre back woes.
However, they are not the only club interested in the defender with two unnamed Italian clubs believed to be interested in acquiring his services.
Corinthians are happy to sell as they want to make money, initially claiming they would be looking for around eight and a half million euros but they know that is unlikely and are happy to settle for around half of that.
