Celta Vigo have rejected a bid from Atletico Madrid for full-back Jonny, who has also been linked with Sevilla.
The Galician club’s president Carlos Mourino confirmed that a 7 million euro bid from Diego Simeone’s side had been rejected at the end of last week.
“We did not accept that offer,” Mourino said.
“The offer from Atlético Madrid – seven million euros – was not too far away from our valuation, but for two months we have not heard from them again and that could be interpreted as not having too much interest in our defender.”
Estadio Deportivo reported two weeks ago that talks between Celta and Sevilla had also taken place but no deal had been agree for the defender, who enters the final year of his contract next summer.
That report claimed that a deal in the region of €16m was being discussed, which would match his release clause and is a pinch of what Atleti offered.
Having developed his game with Celta’s youth teams, Jonny made his first team debut at the age of 18 against Osasuna and has since made 147 league appearances for the Galician side.
Whilst confirming the rejection, Mourino also added a short statement on striker Iago Aspas, saying they had not received any bids for the Spaniard.
