Arthur set to join Barcelona this summerJune 11, 2018
Barcelona will reportedly sign Brazilian midfielder Arthur this summer, instead of January as planned.
Long have the Catalan side been admirers of the Gremio man, having scouted the 21-year-old on a weekly basis since the turn of the year.
Negotiations over a deal have since been underway and whilst it was claimed that a deal had been halted by a stalemate over the transfer fee; it is now confirmed that a deal has been agreed by all parties.
A statement on Barca’s official website confirmed the news months ago and stated that he could arrive this summer, rather than January 2019, which was first proposed – and that now seems to be the case.
Arthur has been in superb form for Gremio, helping them win the Copa Libertadoes last season and reach the Club World Cup final, losing to Real Madrid in December.
One issue surrounding his arrival in the summer is Barca’s list of non-European players, which includes Colombian defender Yerry Mina, Brazilian duo Paulinho and Philippe Coutinho, but is is understood the latter is due to receive a Portuguese passport.
Arthur’s arrival could pave the way for the likes of Denis Suarez and Andre Gomez leave the club, having both failed to break into Ernesto Valverde’s starting eleven this season.
