Antonio Adan will not be joining Sporting CP this summer after the Portuguese side turned their attention to Sampdoria keeper Emiliano Viviano.
Adan, 31, has seen his number one position come under threat for next season after the arrival of Pau Lopez on a four-year deal from Espanyol and that has led to a number of reports linking him a summer exit.
Sporting, who are largely keen – were reportedly in negotiations with the player’s representatives over a move and they were said to have reached a final stage, however, it has now been reported that they have changed their opinion and want to sign Viviano.
Portugal international Rui Patricio, Daniel Podence, William Carvalho, Bruno Fernandes, Gelson Martins and Dost have all cancelled their contracts with the Portuguese club over the weekend.
The decision of each player comes after several incidents involving the club’s fans, which saw groups of Ultras attacking the players at the club’s training ground.
These outbursts came after Sporting failed to qualify for the Champions League, and a Facebook incident which involved all players earlier this year.
De Carvalho suspended 19 of the club’s players following the Facebook spat with the majority of the first team, who he criticised heavily via the social media platform.
