Valencia are interested in signing Goncalo Guedes from Paris Saint Germain, according to various reports.
The Portuguese winger, who is currently on international duty in Russia for the World Cup, was on loan at Valencia last season. The form the 21 year-old enjoyed at the Mestalla has led to the Spanish club wanting to sign him on a permanent basis.
Recent reports had suggested Valencia had agreed a deal with PSG, purporting to be worth 40 million euros with 10 million in bonuses, though the club have been quick to deny any agreement.
Marcelino Toral’s side know that signing Guedes could become a protracted transfer saga due to the players World Cup involvement. With this in mind, the Spaniards will explore alternatives such as Borussia Monchengladbach’s Thorgan Hazard.
Guedes racked up an impressive five goals and eleven assists in thirty-three La Liga appearances last season, in playing an integral role in Valencia’s return to Champions League football.
The former Benfica man only joined PSG in the summer of 2017, but has struggled to find consistent game time. With a glut of attacking options at the French sides disposal such as Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Angel di Maria, a loan move was soon in motion for Guedes.
While the players future remains up in the air, he will seek to put himself in the shop window by impressing for Portugal at the World Cup.
Despite being deployed nominally on the wing in club football, Guedes has started upfront alongside star man Cristiano Ronaldo against Spain and Morocco.
And though Ronaldo has stolen the headlines with four goals to his name, Guedes has registered one assist as the Selecao look to navigate their way beyond the group stage.
