Barcelona’s La Masia has suffered blow after blow in recent weeks with a number of young players being tempted by moves away, but the latest could be the hardest yet as it sees one highly rated talent move to arch rivals Real Madrid.
Mundo Deportivo say that Daniel Gudjohnsen, son of former Barcelona and Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen, will join his brother Adry in moving to the Spanish capital after completing a switch from Espanyol to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
The youngster will accompany his brother as the family prepare to move to Madrid, despite Barcelona’s offer to host Daniel in an attempt to persuade him to stay.
The family rejected the offer as they want to stay together and so Barcelona will lose yet another rising star with Los Blancos capitalising.
It comes as a hit to Barcelona’s new technical management team who have looked to implement a new system at the club to encourage youngsters to stay.
Mundo Deportivo recently claimed that young players would be given a loyalty bonus if they remain with the club through the youth ranks and make it into the Barca B team, though it seems to have had little impact.
The departure of Daniel Gudjohnsen is just the latest indication that young players at the Camp Nou are lacking motivation to stay at the club.
