As a reward for his fine work with the youth teams and having taken over the first team as an emergency replacement for Eusebio Sancristan, Real Sociedad have extended the contract of coach Imanol Alguacil until 2022.
His deal was set to expire next summer, in 2019, but Asier Garitano’s arrival has not affected his future and the new coach is keen to have him at Estadio Anoeta.
MARCA say that Alguacil will return to his role as coach of the B team for the 2018/19 season as he looks to continue to bring through young talents like Alvaro Odriozola, Jon Bautista and Igor Zubeldia, many of whom he called upon having taken charge of the first team.
He will see changes to his coaching team though, with his assistant dropping to the third team to take over as coach and his goalkeeper coach also dropping into the youth ranks of the club.
The next season will represent Alguacil’s fourth season in the role of B team coach at the club, though last season was the most successful as the team finished in the play-off positions of the Segunda B division but were beaten by Fuenlabrada.
The 46-year-old suffered three defeats, compared to one draw and five wins, during his time in charge of the first team and impressed fans and directors with his attitude and impact on the players.
