Having signed Inigo Martinez from Real Sociedad in January, Athletic Club are prepared to poach another former San Sebastian based defender with AS claiming that the club are in talks with Paris Saint-Germain over Yuri Berchiche.
The left-back is up for sale this summer having failed to live up to expectations after leaving Estadio Anoeta for France last summer, with the Ligue Un club desperate to cash in to meet UEFA Financial Fair Play requirements by the end of the month.
As such, Thomas Tuchel’s club will not force a high price, not demanding the 30 million euros that they paid for the 28-year-old 12 months ago.
Yuri made 32 appearances for the French club this season, scoring two goals and providing five assists, but did not convince despite remaining a favourite of former coach Unai Emery.
It could be an unexpected move given that Cristian Ganea will also arrive this summer, with the Romanian national also plying his trade in the same position, and youngster Andoni Lopez also expected to compete in that role.
Lopez could head out on loan, with as many as three top flight clubs having been linked with a loan approach for the 22-year-old, who made his first team debut against Girona in April but did not return to Kuko Ziganda’s side before the end of the campaign.
