Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong has indicated he wants to move to Barcelona, according to a report from Sport today.
Barcelona definitely needs to shore up its midfield, especially due to last season’s departure of Andres Iniesta and likely exits for Andre Gomes and Rafinha this summer.
Unfortunately, Ajax is reluctant to sell the Dutchman as they believe that the price for the 21-year-old will only increase. The club would prefer to hold out for a higher transfer fee next year. But, if de Jong has already told Ajax of his interest to move, it will improve Barcelona’s chances of signing him.
It’s not just Barcelona that is interested in making a move for de Jong. According to De Telegraaf, Paris Saint-German and Manchester City are also interested in the young midfielder.
But, according to Sport, de Jong is just waiting for Barcelona to make the decision. Regardless of other big offers, he has his sights set on joining the Blaugrana and has already decided to take the chance whether it comes this summer or next.
His style of play is expected to fit in well with Barcelona, so now it is just up to the Catalan club to decide if they want to make a formal move to sign de Jong.
