Mateo Kovacic’s request to leave Madrid rejected despite Spurs interestJune 25, 2018
Mateo Kovacic has seen his request to leave Real Madrid turned down, despite interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Kovacic is currently on international duty with Croatia at the World Cup in Russia but has played a bit part role, coming off the bench in their win over Nigeria last week and playing a part in the 3-0 win over Argentina.
Aside from his role with the national side, the former Inter Milan midfielder found playing time indifferent last season – playing largely from the bench under former Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane.
Julen Lopetegui has now been installed at the Santiago Bernabeu, but whilst the Spanish coach is re-assessing his side for next season – Kovacic has not wasted any time in making his intentions heard.
Cadena COPE report that the Croatian has requested to leave the club, but he was turned away by Perez.
Having joined Los Blancos in 2015, Kovacic has helped Madrid win three Champions League titles, including six more honours.
The 24-year-old has started only 37 La Liga games across three seasons and it is now thought that his agent will attempt to negotiate a way out of the club having seen Juventus and former club, Inter, linked in Italian and Spanish press of late.
German club Schalke have also been labelled with interest, whilst Spurs are showing increasing interest.
