Although the World Cup will still be in full swing for the players involved, the rest of RCD Espanyol’s first team will return to training on July 9th.
The club has planned a pre-season tour in the US and England, traveling from July 23 – 28 to play in Richmond, Virginia, and Cincinnati, Ohio to play against local MLS teams.
Los Pericos will then return to Barcelona for a week, before traveling to England to face Burnley in a friendly on August 5.
In other recent Espanyol team news, Sergio Garcia looks set to stay at Espanyol despite better offers. This would mean he spends a seventh season at the club.
Since new coach Rubí came in earlier this month, los Blanquiazules have seen four departures, the most important being, of course, Gerard Moreno’s €20 million move to Villarreal.
Marc Navarro also had an emotional farewell message for the club when he announced last week that he would be moving to Watford. He has been with Espanyol since moving from Barcelona when he was 16-years-old.
Mundo Deportivo also reported today that Espanyol’s major shareholder, Chen Yansheng, has rejected two offers to sell the club. The offers came from North America and the Middle East. Both offers were rejected as Yansheng tries to lower Espanyol’s debt to increase a possible selling price in the future.
