Reports are that Espanyol B coach David Gallego will be heading to manage Cordoba next season.
This comes after Gallego’s great last season when Espanyol B was promoted to Segunda Division B, and he even stood in as first-team manager when Quique Sanchez Flores was sacked. Gallego came in at the end of the season to take 13 points from a possible 15, before heading back to the B team to guarantee their promotion.
After this season, his contract with Espanyol automatically renewed for another year. But, as it was automatic it does not include any termination clause, so if Gallego wants to, he could leave Espanyol at any time.
Previously, Numancia was rumoured to be interested in the Spaniard after the departure of Jagoba Arrasate. But, ultimately they chose to hire Aritz López Garai for the job.
Cordoba President Jesús León is said to favor the appointment of Lugo coach Francisco Rodríguez. Speaking at a press conference, Jesús León said,
“Francisco continues to be a candidate. The name that can adapt best to the model is him, but we have to continue seeing other coaches. On Monday and Tuesday we meet two or three coaches and we will make the decision.”
Gallego first played for Cordoba in 1996 – 1997, later returning in 2001 when the club had been promoted to the Segunda Division. So, he already has a history with the club if they do end up choosing him.
