Will Girona be able to hang on to Portu?June 25, 2018
Although Portu only just confirmed his contract renewal until 2022 back in April, there have reportedly been several offers coming in for the Girona midfielder.
The Spaniard’s release clause means that any offer would have to be over €25 million, but according to Marca, Sevilla and several Premier League clubs have already come knocking.
Since Pablo Machín’s departure, new coach Eusebio Sacristán has been dealing with a flood of rumours regarding players who might be leaving the Montilivi this summer.
Juanpe has interest from Everton as well as Bundesliga clubs, and his release clause of just €10 million is not a massive barrier to any interested party.
The fate of key striker Cristhian Stuani still hangs in the balance as well. The Uruguayan was pressed this week about his future at Girona, but he said his thoughts were just focused on the World Cup for now.
“I have my head in the World Cup 100%. The future I don’t think about too much. I have a contract with the club, I’m relaxed. Football is like this and you never know. I want to focus on the national team and enjoy this moment.”
At the same time, selling a few players allows Girona a good source of income to finance other purchases, such as Johan Mojica who is still on loan from Rayo Vallecano.
The Catalan club just needs to balance those leaving with the team that will remain after summer, to ensure Girona can still prove a remarkable side in the 2018-2019 season.
