Atletico Madrid are preparing an improved contract offer for Diego Godin, after Manchester United and Juventus interest.
The 32-year-old is being considered as a replacement for Medhi Benatia as the former Bayern man continues to be linked with a move away, with the Old Lady believing that Godin is a realistic signing with only one year left on his existing contract.
Serie A champions Juve remain confident that they can strike a deal with Atletico for a reasonable fee, bearing in mind his age, and are keen to bring in a player of his experience and stature.
There has, of yet, been no indication of how himself would react to the interest but Atleti are planning a fresh deal for the defender.
The Uruguayan has been a key man in Diego Simeone’s set-up throughout the most successful era in the club’s history and it seems unlikely that the manager would allow him to leave unless the player himself requests to make the move or Juve make an offer which is too good to turn down.
His experience has been crucial for helping the likes of Jose Gimenez and Lucas Hernandez to develop in an increasingly rejuvenated back four, with Godin now the only defender left in the strongest possible back-line from the club’s LaLiga win in 2014.
