Borussia Dortmund ponder Achraf Hakimi loan deal with Real Madrid

Achraf Hakimi enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in 2017/18 under Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid, becoming a surprising member of the first team squad as injuries hit Los Blancos defence.

Stepping in when Dani Carvajal was absent and Nacho was needed elsewhere, the Moroccan established himself as a reliable option, earning a call-up to Morocco’s World Cup squad in the process.

Now under the command of Julen Lopetegui, his role has been thrown into doubt and it will be even more unclear after German newspaper Kicker reported that Borussia Dortmund are considering a move.

They say that the 19-year-old is interesting the German side for a potential loan move in 2018/19 which would see Real Madrid be able to have him back among the ranks in time for 2019/20.

With plenty of options available in the Real Madrid squad, the offer of regular football at an elite club like Dortmund may be a tempting one for Hakimi.

His exit may hing upon former Spain coach Lopetegui’s plans, particularly with regards to other potential defensive exits for the likes of Jesus Vallejo.

Los Blancos are yet to be strongly linked with a defender, which is good news for the teenager, but he may be one of the first to see his game time fall if Lopetegui does move for another option at the back.
