Douglas will leave Barcelona again this summer, most likely on loan. The Brazilian full-back does not feature in Ernesto Valverde’s plans and that much has been made clear to the player himself.
After making a mere 11 appearances on loan at Portuguese side Benfica last summer, the Barcelona coach does not feel that he would have a role to play at Camp Nou behind Nelson Semedo and Sergi Roberto.
SPORT say that many clubs are intrigued by the possibility of signing the 27-year-old on loan and the Brazilian knows that he will have to up his game to show what he’s capable of and find a long-term club if indeed he is not already there.
Lille are the only team to have made a formal offer but were rebuffed by the Azulgrana as they want all of his wages paid, whereas the Ligue Une team felt that they could not match that demand and will now discuss whether to make another approach.
With just eight appearances to his name for the club and two disappointing loan spells, there remains some doubt about whether Douglas’ role next season will continue as usual or not.
Considering his contract will be up for renewal next summer, the defender may find himself looking for a new club regardless of what happens in one of the biggest wastes of money in recent history, having spent four million euros plus 1.5 million eurs in promo.
