Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is to be quizzed on his tax payments, according to reports.
The company owned by Mendes is currently under investigation by tax authorities in Portugal with officials examining the accounts and business deals over the last three years.
GestiFute, operate as the company behind Mendes’ success in being a player agent, representing the likes of Ronaldo, Angel Di Maria, David De Gea and Radamel Falcao.
Local media in Portugal claims that material linked to Mendes as an owner sees him under suspicion.
A spokeman for the company confirmed the investigation was ongoing and that everything was being done in a professional manner.
The news comes off the back of a number of top flight clients having had problems in Spain with tax authorities. Both Falcao and Ronaldo are alleged to have not told authorities about image rights during their time in Madrid and under the agency of Mendes.
Whilst, Jose Mourinho, also a Mendes client and now of Manchester United, has also been charged for not paying taxes during his time at Santiago Bernabeu.
51-year-old Mendes broke into the world of football at the age of 30 when he brokered a deal for Hugo Viana to join Premier League side Newcastle United.
