Hans Hateboer of Atalanta, has been targeted by Valencia for a move this summer. Los Che are in need of a new right back and are happy they found their man.
With Valencia having sold Joao Cancelo to Juventus for a massive €40 million fee, they are in need of an adequate replacement. Currently, Valencia are left with only Martin Montoya and Nacho Vidal as first team right back options.
Vidal is expected to make a move to Osasuna this summer in order to get first team minutes. This will leave Los Che with Montoya as the only viable option at right back. With Champions League football awaiting along with a busier schedule, Marcelino will need a new recruit and has set his sights on Hans Hateboer of Atalanta.
Hateboer was signed by Atalanta from Netherlands club Gronigen in January 2017 for €340,000. The Dutch club are well renowned for producing high quality footballers including the likes of Arjen Robben. One of the more recent players to have come through their system is Hateboer.
At Atlanta, Hateboer has most often played right wing back/right midfield as a starting position. From here, he is expected to drop back and defend while also providing an attacking threat by utilising his pace and running into space with the ball. Not too different to Cancelo in this regard, Hateboer is very much the modern full/wing back.
Unlike Cancelo however, the attacking threat he provides does not present itself in terms of goals and assists. As mentioned, Hateboer’s biggest threat is his pace while dribbling and then finding a more creative player once the ball has been brought into the ‘danger area’.
The 24 year old is well adept at defending also. Having spent a season and half under the tutelage of Gasparini, the Netherlands international will have tactically improved as most players do when spending time in Italy.
It is believed Valencia have already made contact with Atalanta in relation to buying Hateboer. Their initial offer of €9 million has been rejected. It is expected a deal in the region of €15-20 million will be agreed upon between the clubs.
Hateboer is believed to want to play Champions League football – which is something Valencia can provide. He would also fit into this Valencia set up perfectly; a nice trend being developed here following the great acquisition of Daniel Wass from Celta Vigo too. A player similar in many ways to Marcelino’s old right back Mario Gaspar, Hateboer will be a great signing for Valencia should they push it through.
