For those anticipating a potential clash between Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid, looks like you’ll have to wait just a bit longer.
Marca is reporting that Ronaldo will not play in the summer friendly between Real Madrid and Juventus in the International Champions Cup. The game is scheduled to take place on August 5th at FedEx Stadium, home of the Washington Redskins of the National Football League (NFL).
However, because of Ronaldo’s participation in the World Cup, his vacation does not end until possibly late June. At that point, Juventus will already be in the middle of their US preseason tour. With Ronaldo possibly joining a few days prior to the match against Real Madrid, it is highly unlikely that the Bianconeri will risk their highest-profile signing in recent history.
Any potential match pitting Juventus, and Ronaldo, against Real Madrid will have to wait until the Champions League gets underway. This scenarios is more likely since Juventus won the Serie A title whereas Real Madrid came in third behind the winners, Barcelona, and runner-up, Atletico Madrid. Because of that, the two teams will be in different pots during group stage selection. Juventus will be in Pot 1 and Real Madrid in Pot 2 so there is a chance of them being drawn into the same group.
The only other way is if they meet in the knock-out rounds where it will probably raise more interest. Juventus signed Ronaldo to push them over the edge and help them win the Champions League and he was an integral part of Madrid becoming the first team to win three European titles in a row. Any potential clash will have the added drama of seeing who needed who more and if Ronaldo can produce the same with a slightly less talented club, with all due respect to Juventus.
