Sevilla are close to signing €20million-rated Samu Castillejo from Villarreal, according to reports.
The 23-year-old winger is concerned with a lack of first-team action during pre-season and wants to return to Andalusia to ensure game-time, as reported by AS.
Castillejo heading for surprise exit
The move would provide a good profit for the Yellow Submarine, having signed the former Spanish youth international for €8m from Malaga in 2015.
Castillejo was involved in 11 goals from the flanks last season and wants to leave, despite registering 30 appearances in Villarreal’s rise to fifth in LaLiga.
The Estadio de La Cerámica outfit have looked to shed some fringe players, with a view to reinvesting in other areas.
But Castillejo was not considered among those, with fellow wingers Denis Cheryshev and Nicola Sansone more likely to leave.
Rojiblancos target Correa replacement
Sevilla hope to get the deal over the line in the coming days to replenish their wide options.
Los Colchoneros sold Joaquín Correa to Lazio earlier in the summer, leaving just Nolito as the only other recognised left winger.
Castillejo would be Sevilla’s second attacking arrival of the summer, having seen Aleix Vidal return after a disappointing three years at Barcelona.
Having scraped into the Europa League places, the Andalusians will hope Castillejo can improve their scoring rate, after netting less than 13th-placed Celta Vigo.
