Kepa officially confirmed as Chelsea playerAugust 8, 2018
Chelsea have completed the signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao.
The Premier League side lost Belgian stopper Thibaut Courtois on Wednesday evening after he actively made his desire to move back to Madrid loudly heard over the weekend.
And, in doing so, Chelsea officials quickly turned their attentions to Spanish international Kepa to Stamford Bridge, with plenty of reports claiming they would activate his release clause of €80m before the closure of the transfer window in England on Friday evening and it has now been confirmed that he has arrived at the club.
The youngster has been in sensational form for Athletic in recent seasons and was reportedly close on a move to Real Madrid in January, however, former coach Zinedine Zidane stopped the move at the last minute.
It has been an largely unsuccessful summer for Chelsea in the transfer market, but their speed to bring in the young Basque stopper will have impressed many, whilst Mateo Kovacic has arrived as part of the deal for Courtois.
Courtois, who is still on holiday following the World Cup – will arrive in the Spanish capital on Thursday morning for a medical and to be formally presented as a Los Blancos player.
