Atletico Madrid reject Manchester United’s Godin offerAugust 9, 2018
Atletico Madrid have rejected a bid from Manchester United for central defender Diego Godin, according to reports.
Former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is under increasing pressure at Old Trafford to bring success back to the Manchester club and is actively looking for a new central defender.
Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng and Leicester City’s England hero Harry McGuire have emerged as targets, but is being reported that a bid on Wednesday for Godin was rejected.
Godin, 32, who was named in the World Cup dream team – has been in superb form for the last four to five seasons, helping Atleti to a Europa League title success last season.
The Uruguayan defender has played in Spain for the majority of his career, joining Villarreal in 2007, before moving to Atleti, where he has won six trophies in total, including the La Liga title in 2015.
The centre-back was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City last summer, but chose to reject the move after speaking with boss Diego Simeone about the plans in place for the Madrid based club.
United will now turn to other options in their race to sign a new defender with the English transfer window closing on Friday evening.
