Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has ruled out making a move for his son, Giovanni.
The Spanish club have been linked with a move for the Fiorentina striker after his impressive performances in Italian football saw him score 15 goals in his debut season last term.
Giovanni, born in Madrid, whilst his father was playing for Atleti, moved to Italy in 1997, but later moved to Argentina to begin his development at River Plate where he enjoyed success.
Following his development at the Argentine club, he moved on to Genoa, scoring 14 goals in 37 games for the Serie A club.
Linked with a number of clubs this summer, the young striker has been told by his father that he must continue to develop before potentially being coached by him.
“I like him very much as a player. I am happy with the way he is developing in Italy,” the Atletico boss commented.
“However, I don’t think this is the right moment for us to be reunited together.
“Giovanni needs to continue to develop.”
Simeone Sr. has been relatively busy this summer having signed the likes of Thomas Lemar, who he wants to help him push Barcelona and Real Madrid for the La Liga title next season – having failed to really test the former’s lead last season.
Atleti, did win the Europa League title after being eliminated from the Champions League in the group stages.
