Brazilian defender Marlon is struggling to leave Barcelona after being denied a work permit ahead of various potential moves.
The central defender who has largely impressed when given a rare chance for the Catalan club – is deemed surplus to requirements after the arrival of Clement Lenglet from Sevilla.
A potential move to either West Ham United, Southampton or Newcastle United came close on the English deadline day which was on Thursday, however, Marlon was denied a move to the latter in the 11th hour due to his failure to obtain a work permit – despite everything being agreed.
Now, his future seems destined on the bench or even – in the stands – at Barca, unless he can push for a late move to sides in Italy, France or Germany.
Marlon spent last season on loan with Ligue 1 side Nice, and they did have an interest in securing a permanent deal.
A whole host of Italian sides have also been labelled with interest, and it is now understood that he and his agent will be pushing clubs to make a loan offer.
Barca open up their competitive campaign on Sunday evening against Sevilla in the Spanish Supecopa, which this time round – will be played over one-leg.
