Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde spoke to press ahead of his side’s Spanish Supercopa tie with Sevilla and said the Andalusian side would be more prepared.
Both teams head to Morocco on Sunday to face off in a rare one-legged tie with Sevilla having played more friendlies and competitive fixtures in the Europa League.
Pablo Machin’s side have been in good form over pre-season and a 1-0 win over Zalgiris in their Europa League qualifier on Thursday saw them warm up for the task against Barca.
Barca have been busy too, but they have only just seen the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and their Spanish contingent return to training – following the World Cup in Russia.
A whole host of B-team players have been in action, whilst fringe players such as Rafinha and Munir El Haddadi have been a big part of their pre-season thus far.
Sunday evening’s game is likely to be an exciting affair, given that unlike recent years – it will now be determined over one leg.
Valverde, who heads into his second season as Barca coach – believes the tie will be an open affair.
“The fact that the Supercopa is a single game makes it a little more open and difficult,” the Coach said at a Press conference.
“Sevilla will be more prepared because they’ve been competing for two weeks, while we’ve come from a tour and some of the lads have joined up later.
“Still, we’re looking forward to winning our first trophy. I’m also optimistic because I’ve seen the players, plus those who joined up later.
“They’re at a good level, focused, know what they need to do and it shows in training. I’ll call up all the players because it’s a Final and that’s what I usually do.”
