Spanish Super Cup: Sevilla vs Barcelona – Team News, Lineups, Preview and PredictionAugust 12, 2018
Sevilla and Barcelona will face off in the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday evening in the Moroccan city of Tangier.
Both teams head to Morocco on Sunday to face off in a rare one-legged tie with Sevilla having played more friendlies and competitive fixtures in the Europa League.
Machin’s side have been in good form over pre-season and a 1-0 win over Zalgiris in their Europa League qualifier on Thursday saw them warm up for the task against Barca.

A whole host of new signings at the Andalusian club have integrated well, and they will face off against the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho.
An added bonus for Sevilla though, is that the likes of the aforementioned trio have only just returned to training – featuring in none of Barca’s pre-season friendlies due to their summer at the World Cup in Russia with their countries.
Clement Lenglet, Arthur and Malcom are all expected to make their first competitive starts for Barcelona, whilst Lionel Messi is expected to play. Luis Suarez and the likes of Gerard Pique could feature from the bench.
For Sevilla, Aleix Vidal will feature against his former club, whilst Pablo Sarabia could be picked after missing out in Thursday’s Europa League tie.
WHAT THE MANAGER’S SAID
Machin: “It’s a no-brainer that Barca are a super team, who specialise in winning Finals and have some of the best players in the world,” the Coach said at a Press conference.
“However, one of the few sports where an inferior team can beat a superior one is football, and we have a chance. We’ll do the best we can and see what our opponents leave us.”
Valverde: “The fact that the Supercopa is a single game makes it a little more open and difficult,” the Coach said at a Press conference.
“Sevilla will be more prepared because they’ve been competing for two weeks, while we’ve come from a tour and some of the lads have joined up later.
“Still, we’re looking forward to winning our first trophy. I’m also optimistic because I’ve seen the players, plus those who joined up later.
Sevilla: Vaclik, Mercado, Carrico, Gnagnon, Navas, Escudero, Banega, Mesa, Nolito, Vazquez, Muriel
Barcelona: Cillessen, Semedo, Alba, Pique, Lenglet, Busquets, Rafinha, Arthur, Dembele, Malcom, Messi
2-1 – Yes, we are going for a Sevilla win. Barcelona will need to be careful if they head into the tie in a ‘friendly’ manner and Valverde’s team selection will be very important.
