Barcelona defender Marlon is awaiting a contract offer from Bundesliga side Schalke as he looks set to leave the club.
The central defender who has largely impressed when given a rare chance for the Catalan club – is deemed surplus to requirements after the arrival of Clement Lenglet from Sevilla.
A potential move to either West Ham United, Southampton or Newcastle United came close on the English deadline day which was on Thursday, however, Marlon was denied a move to the latter in the 11th hour due to his failure to obtain a work permit – despite everything being agreed.
Marlon spent last season on loan with Ligue 1 side Nice, and they did have an interest in securing a permanent deal.
A whole host of Italian sides have also been labelled with interest, and it is now understood that he and his agent will be pushing clubs to make a loan offer with Sassuolo and Schalke being linked.
Sport claims that the Bundesliga side have the cash to buy the Brazilian and will offer more than the Italian side.
Barca boss Ernesto Valverde now has plenty of options at the heart of his defence, having signed Lenglet, who will fight for a place with the likes of Gerard Pique and Samuel Umtiti.
