Real Sociedad coach Asier Garitano felt his side had to “suffer” during their 2-1 win over Villarreal and was happy to see them pass the test.
Goals from Willian Jose and Juanmi off the back of two defensive errors gave the Spaniard the perfect start.
Although La Real had to come from behind due to a Gerard Moreno strike and Garitano feels that was the moment his side decided to go for it.
“We were controlling the game right up to their first goal,” he told reporters after the game. “That complicated it for us and it was difficult for us to improve.”
After joining from Leganes in May, Garitano spoke about how important it was to kick start the season with a win.
“We had to suffer and we endured the pressure well. Football’s all about results, you work in preseason, but you always have doubts, but I’ve seen a team that has always known how to play, “he added.
Next up sees Garitano come up against his former side Leganes on Friday in La Liga where the Basque club will be looking to make it two out of two.
