Three new loan signings have made their way through the entrance door at the Estadio José Zorrilla as Real Valladolid make further moves to bolster their attack.
The club announced the arrivals of Enes Ünal, Leo Suárez and Duje Čop on season-long deals, with an option to purchase Čop at the end of that period.
Ünal, a 21-year-old centre forward from Bursa in Turkey, joins from Villarreal where he has spent less than 15 months after a £12 million transfer from Manchester City. His time in Manchester was marked by loan periods at KRC Genk, NAC Breda, FC Twente. He spent almost two months with Levante on an emergency loan last year, scoring on his debut in a 2-1 loss to Girona.
He is joined by club-mate Leo Suárez, a 22-year-old right-winger born in José León Suárez in Argentina and who had recently been moved up to the Villarreal first team. Suárez signed with the Yellow Submarine’s B-team from Boca Juniors in his native country in 2015 and scored 12 goals in 79 appearances. This saw him make the step up to the senior side at the start of July this year. Suárez has also been capped twice for Argentina at under-21 level.
Croatian Duje Čop makes the move to Valladolid from Standard Liège on a one-year loan which may turn into a permanent deal. Čop will add depth at the centre forward position as the blanquivioletas attempt to find a goal-scoring replacement for Jaime Mata. As well as being capped 13 times for his country, with two goals to his name, the 28-year-old has experience of playing in the top leagues of Croatia (with Hajduk Split and Dinamo Zagreb), Italy (Calgiari) and Belgium (Standard Liége). He joined the latter in August last year for a fee of €3 million. This will not be Čop’s first taste of Spanish football as he has had previous loan spells at Màlaga in the 2015/16 season – with seven goals in 32 appearances – and nine goals from 31 matches with Sporting in 2016/17.
