Rayo Vallecano suffered a disappointing return to life in the Spanish top flight as they crashed to a 4-1 defeat at home at Estadio de Vallecas to Pablo Machin’s Sevilla, and it could lead to spring the club into action in the transfer market.
Union Rayo claim that the club have made an enquiry to their Madrid neighbours Real Madrid regarding two players: Raul de Tomas, who spent the 2017/18 season on loan at Vallecas and was prolific in earning the team promotion, and Andriy Lunin.
23-year-old De Tomas scored 24 goals in 32 games last season on loan before returning to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, though he has only featured intermittently in pre-season and was absent from Julen Lopetegui’s matchday squad to face Getafe.
The same can be said for summer signing Andriy Lunin. The 19-year-old goalkeeper cost the club 8.5 million euros but currently looks to be fourth choice behind Keylor Navas, Thibaut Courtois and Kiko Casilla.
Alberto is likely to remain number one, even if Lunin were to join the club, but he would certainly provide competition for the veteran. Elsewhere, De Tomas would undoubtedly bring goals to a team which is lacking a natural centre forward even now after the season has kicked off.
Coach Michel will be well aware of the fact that improvements are needed, and these two men could be key to working towards that.
