It was only a few months ago in April, when Roma had their famous 3-0 win against FC Barcelona to knock the BlauGrana out of the Champions League.
Speaking to official Barcelona media today, Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde reflected on the shock defeat in Rome.
“We had a horrible day, and my analysis of the second leg was that everything that surrounded that tie was not good.
“The first game was difficult but we took advantage, though the second leg was distorted from the beginning.
“They were much stronger and we couldn’t turn it around.”
The club also posted an interview with Valverde on their official website today. The Spaniard discussed how he would like to maintain the feeling of team spirit that the team had last season.
“That has been really important for us in becoming champions and being consistent over the whole season.
We put in a huge amount of effort with regards to operating as a unit, in attack, in defence, in the dressing room and in all areas when we had problems and I think that was one of the keys to our success.”
Only time will tell if Barcelona can hold on to the LaLiga trophy again next year. The first game of the season went smoothly as they won at home 3-0 against Alaves. But, there’s a long way to go.
